8 Day Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival in Montana
Fly into Bozeman, MT and transfer to Big Sky for your first night. If time allows, enjoy a visit to the Museum of the Rockies before settling into your lodging.
Day 2: Big Sky Activity Day
Your first full day gives you the chance to enjoy outdoor recreation in Big Sky. Choose up to three activities such as ziplining, horseback riding, tram rides, mountain biking, golf, fly fishing, or a guided day hike in Yellowstone’s Gallatin District. Stay in Big Sky a second night.
Day 3: Yellowstone & Grand Teton Scenic Drive
Start early to avoid the busiest hours in Yellowstone. Explore the west side of the park, including Old Faithful, Fountain Paint Pots, Firehole Falls, Firehole Lake Drive, and the historic Old Faithful Inn. Continue through the South Entrance into Grand Teton National Park with stops at Jenny Lake and scenic overlooks. Overnight in Jackson, WY.
Day 4: Exploring Grand Teton & Returning North
Travel along the Teton outer road at sunrise, stopping at viewpoints to take in the dramatic peaks. Re-enter Yellowstone through the South Entrance and explore sites such as Moose Falls, West Thumb Geyser Basin, Yellowstone Lake, the Lake Hotel, and Sylvan Pass. Overnight at a guest ranch near the East Entrance. Depending on your interests, this day may also include a morning ski lift ride in Jackson or a backcountry hike in Yellowstone.
Day 5: Wildlife & Canyon Country
Depart early for Hayden Valley, one of Yellowstone’s richest wildlife areas. Continue to the Mud Volcano, Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone, Upper and Lower Falls, Crystal Falls, Dunraven Pass, and Tower Falls. If time permits, visit Norris Geyser Basin. Stay overnight in Cooke City, MT.
Day 6: Beartooth Highway or Chief Joseph Highway
Begin with a quick morning in Lamar Valley for wildlife viewing. In the afternoon, travel one of America’s most beautiful scenic routes, the Beartooth Highway. With sweeping alpine views at nearly 11,000 feet, this road is a highlight of the trip. Alternatively, take the equally spectacular Chief Joseph Highway. Overnight again in Cooke City.
Day 7: Northern Yellowstone Highlights
Spend another morning in Lamar Valley before traveling north to Mammoth Hot Springs. Explore the terraces, Undine Falls, the Petrified Tree, Rustic Falls, and Golden Gate Canyon. End the day with a soak in the Boiling River or Chico Hot Springs before transferring to Gardiner or Bozeman.
Day 8: Final Sightseeing & Departure
For those with later flights, enjoy additional sightseeing on Yellowstone’s north side. Options include wildlife watching, soaking in hot springs, or exploring the original stagecoach route along the Old Yellowstone Trail. Depart from Bozeman International Airport.
